Simple Act of Change...
Perception can either be a powerful ally or your worst enemy. How we perceive the world and how the world perceives us, truly influences the conditioning of our mind. Psychiatric nurse, Joel Ayapana, shares his experiences and the perception of his work and his patients who have been diagnosed with mental illness in his feature in LL Mag and demonstrates how there is power in perception.
Do you believe that you can change your world with your mind? Do you feel there is a way to find your true happiness? What if the simple act of changing your thoughts could grant you everything that is possible? If you perceive something to be one way, it usually is just that. In every choice of thought, you create your reality. Yes, life can hand you some devasting blows but in each experience, we have the choice to learn and grow, or bury ourselves in the demise of the totality of the devastation. Even in something like mental illness, it can be experienced through action; the action to find the strategies of the mind that work for us and support us.

“Our reactions must not reflect the essence , or even mirror the bulk of all our surrounding landscape. They must be the very reflection within the stillness and calm of a patient, soothing, and healing heart.” These are words written by Joel Ayapana in his book The Book of Positive Light: Remembrance of the Heart, a year-long journal he wrote in discovering the power and love within. The power of perception to life changes everything. We choose how we will integrate each moment we experience. It doesn’t mean we are going to get it perfect, in fact, there will be times we completely mess it up. Like, fall flat on our face and get it wrong. But, as my father reminds me often, a boxer in a ring who stays down after getting his clock cleaned most definitely fails and it’s all over. But, if a boxer gets knocked down and keeps getting up then his failures fuel his win. There is always a way in taking an experience and learning from it. ALWAYS.
I can tell you from my own personal experience, life can feel like the most agonizing torture at times. And it’s ok to not be happy or satisfied all the time. Our feelings are our clues as to how we can change everything that isn’t working for our lives. When we can tune into those feelings and examine the parts of ourselves that are painful, we can then begin to heal. We can begin to have the life we want. And when we live this way, it benefits the entire world to have someone who is living from the place they were born to live from. The place that is exactly who they are.How do you see your world?
How do you see yourself? Trust in the power of you and that you CAN be the author of your own story. Your thoughts are influenced by the voice of your heart. Trust it. Listen to it. Act from it. Change your thoughts, change your mind, change the world.
